“Electricity when I look at you” is the name of the publication by Juan Luis Dinamarca, also a former student of the House of Studies.
Roger Schurch, Director of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Víctor Hinojosa, head of the Casa Central Campus, and Raúl Rendic, president of the Association of Alumni of the Department of Electrical Engineering (AGEDIE), led the presentation of the book that was published and donated by AGEDIE.
Regarding this publication, its author and also a former student of the House of Studies, highlighted that “it expresses a declaration of love for the University and behind each anecdote is the pride of being healthy, the happiness of having met so many people who participate in the training university and having received the responsibility of the legacy of don Federico Santa María to build an education project”.
Likewise, he pointed out that through this publication “I want to give teachers a spirit of encouragement, because difficult times require intelligent solutions. I am convinced that the best teacher is the one who shows his professional emotions in front of the students. Look at the root of the University, ”he added by way of advice to current academics.
Roger Schurch, Director of the Department of Electrical Engineering, referred to the importance of this book, noting that “since its founding, the University has created a tremendous legacy and history, which is passed down from generation to generation. The teacher captured this in such a good way that I think it will be very motivating for the students and at the same time challenging for us teachers. We are very happy that it has been well received and that speaks of the impact that Don Juan Luis Denmark had on all of us and the environment”.
Regarding Denmark’s vocation for teaching, Schurch added that “his teaching of him was always accompanied by examples and anecdotes from industrial reality, his teaching vocation was clear and that motivated to learn. We were also able to observe his great skills, he imparted a lot of love in the practice of electrical engineering. In addition to the pride of being sansano, he made us see the responsibility we had as future engineers, to work with integrity and how that impacts society ”.
For his part, Raúl Rendic, president of the alumni union association, highlighted that “Juan Luis recounts very well his experiences more than 50 years ago, when the University was very small. I was his classmate and the conditions were different, we were in boarding school, it was a very rigorous discipline. In addition, he was a trainer, not only of students, but also promoted the development of the High Voltage Laboratory, which is exceptional and unique”.
Meanwhile, Simón Valdebenito, a fourth-year student and president of the Electrical Engineering Student Center of the Casa Central Campus, commented that “unfortunately I was not able to meet Professor Denmark, but his words touched my soul and hearing that is a great motivation . He sets the bar very high for both teachers and students and hopefully one day I can be a teacher like him and motivate my peers”.
