On August 3, 2022 Juan Carlos Araneda was awarded the Technical Council Award 2022 for his contribution to CIGRE Study Committee C1 (Power System Development and Economics). He is the first Chilean professional to receive such international recognition from CIGRE.
Araneda has participated in C1 since 2010 and is currently a member of its Strategic Advisory Group. He has been part of international C1 working groups, highlighting his contribution in the Technical Brochure – TB 572 (Tools for Economically Optimal Transmission Development Plans) of 2014 and TB 786 (Investment Decisions in a Changing and Uncertain Environment) of 2019. In 2017 he was the first Chilean professional to be appointed by CIGRE as coordinator of an international working group (Optimal Transmission and Distribution Investment Decisions under increasing Energy Scenario Uncertainty), which is about to publish its TB. At the national level, Araneda was president of the Chilean Committee of CIGRE in the period 2015-2019 and, in addition, he is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
